Project Baby Shower: The Cake Stands

I'm so excited that I get to throw a baby shower for my dear friend next week! I LOVE that I get to celebrate her beautiful sweet (and super chubby!) baby with all of our friends!

I'm also thrilled to get to be the one to plan the party, and therefore, paint many things pink. :)

The theme started with these two beautiful old windows that I have, one is white and the other is pink. I love the vintage and shabby look, so after going through my house and finding all sorts of things that fit, the theme really started to come together. I spent many a night on Pinterest finding all sorts of inspiration:

I have a set of white birdcages like these I found at Great Rooms Decor.

I will do my best to replicate these beautiful favor boxes from Accent The Party. This party also from Accent The Party also has a lot of inspirational ideas:

One of the first things I knew that I would need is a set of pink cake stands. They are so easy to make, and I know I'll use them over and over again. I made these red ones a while back for my daughter's birthday party and I have been able to use them for several parties since. Red is a very useful color. After I made these and realized how easy and cheap they were, I couldn't wait to have an excuse to make a set in every color! That could be a new goal for me.

I got these unfinished wood squares at Hobby Lobby and the table legs at Home Depot:

Then I painted them with several coats of the prettiest pink paint you ever did see:

The since I'm going for an older shabby look, I sanded the dickens out of them:

Then I took the two bottom pieces, and found the center:

I used a drill bit about the size of the screw on the bottom of the table legs to drill a hole half way through the piece of wood. JUST HALF WAY THROUGH!

Then the table legs will screw nicely onto the bottom of the cake stands, like so:

Then I took them outside and sprayed each piece with some clear matte finishing spray. This will give them a more finished look and also make those areas that you sanded stand out a little more.

Next I took the two top pieces, turned them upside-down and found the center. Then I just hot glued the end of the table legs, and glued them in the middle of the top piece. Make sure if your cake stands are square that you line the top and bottom up to match.

And Tah-Dah! Two beautiful pink cake stands!

Puppy Love Valentines Day

Last year for Valentine's Day I wanted to do something special for my kids. I found this adorable idea from The Gala Gals where we got to celebrate all day long. What I loved about this idea was that it was REALLY cheap. I hardly had to buy anything and yet it turned out SO cute! My kids talked about it for weeks!

It started with the theme "Puppy Love". The night before Valentine's Day, after the kids were in bed, I decorated the kitchen table with a cheap red tablecloth, some heart confetti, and a picture I made that said "puppy Love'. I found these adorable dog food containers at the dollar store and knew they'd be perfect for the day's theme! My kids thought it was HILARIOUS that I made them eat out of dog bowls! I also printed out a simple picture with the theme and their names, then I laminated them so we could use them as place mats.

While at the dollar store, I found these Valentine stuffed dogs. I had to have them. I'll buy anything for a buck.

So when the kids got up in the morning they found this:

Then to start the day off, we had cocoa puffs in our dog bowls. Awesome, right? Cause it looks like dog food.

I also happen to have a bone shaped cookie cutter that I had never had a reason to use until now. So we had bone shaped toast with our cereal.

Then, while the kids were at school, I got started on some more Puppy themed fun. I made bags with their names on them and filled them with Puppy Chow.

Then, since I knew my kids would think it was super hilarious, I printed out a picture of a fire hydrant and taped it to a plate. I cut up some green paper to look like grass and then I made some chocolate cake balls. It turned out super cute!

When it came time for dinner, we made personal sized pizzas:

I have a mini heart cookie cutter that we used to cut the Canadian bacon into little hearts, because hey, it's Valentine's Day.
We also made bone shaped garlic breadsticks:

We also had pink lemonade in sugar rimmed glasses:

It turned out to be such a fun and inexpensive way to celebrate Valentine's Day and my kids LOVED it! They keep asking me what I'm going to do this year--I'll give you a hint...it looks a little something like this:

Pink and Orange Party Feature

My niece just had her 4th birthday-on Christmas Day! We wanted to make sure she had her very own special birthday party that was not at all tied into Christmas. Since her favorite color is orange, I put together a very girly pink and orange party! After a trip down the street to Heidi's house, I gathered up everything I could find that was pink and orange. Even with the entire house decorated for Christmas, we were able to transform the kitchen table into a super cute birthday surprise! Here's what I came up with:

Framed Christmas Prints Tutorial

I am so excited to show you what I have been up to the last couple of days! First let me show you the finished products, and then I'll dive into the how-to! Here is the first:

I absolutely LOVE how these turned out! My upstairs Christmas decorations are all Vintage pinks and creams and gold. I was thrilled when Katie came out with this kit, because finally I had something to match. And since it's snowflakes, I can keep it up through January! The second set I made to go with my downstairs Christmas decorations, which are traditional red and green, with cream and black. Here's project #2:

These projects were actually quite simple to make, and pretty cheap too!
For each of these projects I needed some 8x8 frames, which I could not find ANYWHERE! So, I made my own. If you are lucky enough to find cheap 8x8 frames--skip down to the cutting out part and don't worry about this first part! For those of us who couldn't find any, you will need a few materials to make yours. I went to Home Depot, grabbed one of their 2' x 4' pieces of hardboard ($3.42), and asked one of their super helpful and handsome employees to cut it up into 8 inch squares--for free. So now I have 12 8x8 inch hardboard squares. Since you only need 3 per set, I suggest grabbing some friends and splitting the cost.

Now, while at Home Depot, I also grabbed 2 pieces of small molding. They were 8 feet long. You want something sort of small, mine was just over an inch wide. You also want something flat on the backside, not beveled, like this:

The molding ranges from super ornate to pretty simple, and about $2.00 a piece to about $10.00 a piece. It's totally up to you which kind you choose. I chose something in the middle, a simple pattern, and about 5 bucks. Now, you are going to want your molding to hang over the edge of your hardboard, so cut your molding sections a little bigger then 8 inches. I cut mine in 9 inch sections, so that the outside of my frame would hang over about 1/2 an inch. If your molding is super narrow, cut at about 8.5 inches.

Then, I cut each side at 45 degree angles, with the wider part of the molding on the outside (the 9 inch side).

So now if you take 4 of your sections and put them on your 8 inch hardboard, they will hang over just a bit:

This will give you all the wiggle room you need to make your frame square and cover your paper. You'll need to spray paint your sections now. For the first set I chose Ivory. You can choose any colors depending on which set of prints you are using.

These will take several coats of paint, so while that's drying, you can cut out your pictures.
You can just either buy scrapbook paper and cut out the pieces you'll need, or buy one of several sets of these prints from my Etsy store HERE or my Just So Scrappy store HERE. If you buy them from me, you will simply print them out on white cardstock like this:

Cut out the 3, 8 inch square papers:

Now grab some Mod Podge and a brush. Slather the Mod Podge all over the paper or the hardboard, which ever is easier, line up the paper on the middle of the board, and smooth it out.

Now, flip it over and put a heavy book on it while it dries.

Now it's time to cut out your snowflakes. I know, it's a pain, but well worth it ladies!

I used an Xacto knife to cut out the smaller parts. Please use a cutting board for that, don't mess up that counter top! Since cutting these out takes some time, take a break between each one and go out and respray your molding sections. Then come back inside and cut out more snowflakes while the paint dries. After you've cut out all your snowflakes and whichever 3 flowers you choose to use, they will look like this:

Once your painted molding is dry, and your paper on the hardboard is dry, you are ready to glue on your frame. Line the sections up on your hardboard until it fits together well. Remember it is supposed to hang over the edge a bit:

I used a glue gun to glue those pieces on, but again, a glue gun is not very forgiving if you make a mistake. Use something repositionable, like good ol' Elmers or some other craft glue. Take the top section off, run a line of glue on your board, and place the top piece back on, using the pattern in the paper to help keep it straight.

Try to get it as even on both sides as you can. Also, don't put the glue all the way to the ends because if it seeps out the sides, your next section of molding won't sit flat. Now keep holding your frame in place and glue one section at a time. Don't worry if they don't line up perfectly. Mine didn't and you can't even tell. It isn't meant to be perfect.

Continue until you've glued all 4 sides on. You may need to put a book on it while it dries. Follow these same steps for the other 2 boards. By the third one you'll be a pro! This is what they'll look like after all 3 boards are framed:

Now you need to decide which snowflake and which flower you'd like where:

On the snowflake first, I used those 3-D foam sticky dots you can find at any craft store or even Walmart. This way they stuck out a little and added some dimension to the picture.

Then I did the same thing with the flower on top:

Do this to all 3 of your pictures and voila! You are done!

For my second set of pictures, I followed the same steps:

I cut my molding and painted them black instead:

I printed out the pictures, and cut them out:

Then I Mod Podged the paper to the boards:

Glued the black molding on:

Put foam dots on my stars and flowers:

Put them all together:

That's it! I think my second set took less than half the time of the first set! Now that I know what I'm doing, I may get ambitious enough to make some gift sets! I will have several sets of prints up in my store in the next few days so you'll have some different things to choose from. Enjoy!!!

Christmas Treat Bag Toppers

Hi there! Just wanted to show you all these adorable Christmas Treat Bag Toppers: The first is the Reindeer Noses made with Whoppers and one red sour ball, or a gumball would be cute too:

Next is the ever popular Snowman Soup, complete with Hot Chocolate pouch, marshmallows, and candy canes:

And last we have the Lump of Coal. I used black foil-covered chocolates that I found at Walmart, but I have also seen Rice Krispie treats made with black food coloring that is super cute too!

Advent Calendar Feature

Today I wanted to feature the amazing Janiece and the advent calendar she whipped up last night. She used the Pocket Advent Calendar Printables, but then made it all her own using a 16x20 canvas:

Christmas Notebooks

So I am one of those people that loves to make lists. I love notepads, notebooks, anything that I can write down notes and make to-do lists on. I have a small obsession with notebooks. Any chance I get to decorate a new notebook--I do a little dance. I may or may not have a problem. Case in point:

These are the notebooks within reach of my computer desk. I have many more. I have one here for taking notes at PTA meetings...

I have one for taking notes in Relief Society should the opportunity present itself...

Of course, it has ric rac. If I could cover the world in ric rac, I would. I had a rainbow/circus themed birthday party for my daughter last year. I also had a rainbow themed party planner with which to keep track of all birthday related stuff...complete with Happy Birthday ribbon...

I have a notebook for taking notes while watching General Conference...with ric rac...

Last year I made a Christmas notebook to keep track of all my Christmas thoughts and ideas for my kids...

I put tabs on the side for my kids so I can flip to the right page and jot down notes while out shopping...seriously, I took this notebook with me everywhere last Christmas. I glued a pocket on the inside cover to hold my receipts, and even added matching ribbon. Because that's important.

And every year at the beginning of school I make my kids a couple of notebooks to use at school, which they LOVE! So this year I decided to make a couple more for each of them for Christmas, because really, you can never have enough notebooks. I made these using some digital scrapbook kits from my dear friend Katie. Here is the first one I made for my daughter...

I added some matching ribbon, because my little girl would say that nothing is complete without a bow.

The next two are for my son...

These print out with such amazing quality and are so easy and cheap! Every year when Walmart has their back to school sale and these notebooks are .10--I buy like 30. So so cheap. Then I can decorate them throughout the year for Holidays or birthdays. Kids love anything with their name on it so these make great gifts! After I made these on Photoshop, I put them on my flash drive, took them down to my local copy center and printed them out for .79. Then I brought them home, trimmed the edges to fit the notebook, and spent all of 30 seconds gluing them to the notebook. So for less than the price of 1 sheet of scrapbook paper, I made these adorable notebooks for my kids! I love cheap and easy ideas like this! Now I need to make a Christmas Party Planner notebook!

Hot Chocolate Bar

One of my most favorite things about winter has got to be hot chocolate. I can consume a fairly insane amount. Just ask my friends. I love me some hot chocolate! My dear friend Jill and I put on this Hot Chocolate Bar for a RS Activity last week. Love the way it turned out! Here's some pics:

Jill did such a fabulous job making these yummy goodies and she even made homemade marshmallows!

I also wanted to share a super cute post from THE GALA GALS, Party With A Peppermint Twist:
Heidi shared this hot chocolate recipe:

Peppermint Hot Cocoa

Ingredients:

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract

1 ½ cups sugar

16 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped

2 teaspoons salt

½ teaspoon peppermint oil

Directions:

Combine the milk, cream, vanilla, and sugar in a saucepan over medium heat. When the mixture is hot, add the chopped chocolate and stir constantly until the hot chocolate is completely melted. Continue stirring while adding the salt and peppermint oil. When the mixture reaches a simmer, remove it from the heat and serve immediately.

Thanksgiving Around the House

Oh my goodness, I have been so busy lately that Thanksgiving is sneaking up on me and I have barely noticed! I really had meant to blog about several projects that I made this year, and I never did! So instead I'll just post pictures of what I did! Here's a look at some of the Thanksgiving things around my house...

This was a fun little project. I made an this 8x10 print and put it in a frame on our kitchen counter. We have a dry erase marker next to it that we use to write something we are thankful for every day, then I just wipe it off for the next day. Notice that my son is thankful for movies and donuts. He's 11, can you tell? This is fun for me to see what crazy things my kids will write.
I also made a new runner for Thanksgiving this year. I LOVE these colors!

I wanted some green plates to match the green in my runner, and I found this set at Walmart on CLEARANCE. Chargers and napkin rings also on clearance. Sweet.

Now I can't wait for the FOOD! Happy Thanksgiving!

Muffin Tin Gingerbread Advent Calendar

Ready for a super cute super EASY advent?!! You've all seen the muffin tin advents right? Here's a little how-to for the one I just made: Here is the finished product:

First you will need a 24 count mini muffin tin--like this one:

Then you will need 24 cute little circles that measure 2.25 inches across. You can make your own, or you can buy these cute little guys from my Just So Scrappy shop HERE, or my Etsy shop HERE. If you buy them from me, you will just print them out on white cardstock like this:

And finally you'll need some adhesive magnet paper. I bought mine at Walmart in the craft section. They come 2 sheets in a pack, and they are half size sheets, so you will need 2 of those:

Now cut your paper with your circles on it in half:

Then peel the backing off of one of your magnet sheets:

Now press your half sheet of circles onto that magnet paper. Be sure to center it so that all your circles will be on the magnet paper:

Now you just have to cut them out as carefully as possible, leaving the little color border around each circle:

Do the same thing for the other half of the paper, and for the second sheet.
When you are done, they will look like this:

Pretty easy huh?! Now you can put some little pieces of candy behind each circles like this:

I used some printables from this set to decorate Hershey's Kisses and some mini bars to match the advent calendar:

Christmas Pocket Advent Calendar Tutorial

I came across an advent calendar on Pinterest that was so stinkin cute I had to make one. I wish I could have found the original maker to give her credit for her awesomeness, but I couldn't, so just know--she's pretty awesome. So here's the project:

Pretty cute huh?! So here's how to make it...
First you'll need some of these pocket pictures and tags--which you can either buy in my Just So Scrappy Shop HERE or you can always make your own! My pockets measure 2.25 inches by 3 inches, and the tags are 1.5 inches by 3 inches. If you buy them from me, I recommend sending them to a photo lab to be printed. The quality of the finished product will look better, and there's no tearing or wrinkling to worry about. They will look like this:

Now just cut them in half, leaving plenty of space around the pocket, like this:

Then just cut out the tags, leaving the little border around each one.

Once you have all your tags cut out, punch a hole right in the middle of that circle:

Now that your tags are done, let's cut out the pockets. Cut each corner off at an angle, just barely on the edge of the picture--don't cut any of the picture though! Like this:

Now, cut just the TOP section off, right along the border, DON'T CUT THE OTHER 3 SIDES OFF!

Once you've got all your pockets cut out, and just the tops cut off, you're ready to fold. I like to use a clear ruler (like one you use sewing) so that I can see through it and see exactly where I'm folding. Take your ruler and line it up on the edge of the picture.

Hold the ruler in place and fold the edge up. Make sure you crease it well.

Do this to all three sides...

Now you can take the ruler away, flip your pocket over, and bend those three sides to the back. You will have a nice guide to follow and you won't have to worry about folding it crooked.

Do this to all 24 of your pockets. They will look like this:

Now, set those aside and let's put together the backgrounds. You will need something to mount your calendar to. You can use whatever you'd like, depending on how sturdy you want it. Cut whatever you chose to 12x12--you will need two of them. I used hardboard that I got from Home Depot, because I wanted mine to be REALLY sturdy and not bend. It comes in sheets 2 feet by 4 feet, but they will cut it to whatever size you'd like for FREE. So one sheet will make 8 12x12 squares. That's enough for 4 calendars, so grab a couple of friends and have a calendar making girls night!

You will also need 2 pieces of 12x12 scrapbook paper. Choose something with a very small pattern and not a lot of colors, or it will look really busy with the calendar pockets on it! I chose a simple red polka dot paper.

Now just line your paper up to your background board, trace around it, and trim the paper so it will fit exactly on your board. Do this for the top and bottom pieces.

Now take one of your boards and mark one side at 3 inches and 9 inches, and half an inch down:

For the top piece of your calendar, mark the top and bottom of your board. For the bottom board, only mark the top. Now you're going to need a drill and a scrap piece of wood to drill on. Chose a bit that is as close to the size of your hole punch as you can. Mine was 15/64.

Now, drill through all 6 of those points that you marked: remember to use a scrap piece underneath so you don't drill through your counter top!

Now you should have 4 holes in the top piece and 2 in the bottom. Now just line up your paper behind the board, with the right side facing the board. Take a pen and mark all those holes. Do this to the top and bottom pieces.

When you have all the holes marked, you can take your hole punch and punch them all.

Now when you put your paper back on top of your board, your holes will line up nicely.

Now you are ready to glue that paper to your board. Grab some Mod Podge and a brush. Now slather some Mod Podge all over half of your board. I do half at a time because it dries pretty quickly. Make sure to cover your surface COMPLETELY with Mod Podge so there won't be any bubbles when it dries.

Line up your paper and smooth it out. Hold the other half of the paper up while you Mod Podge the other side. Then press then paper down and smooth it all out.

Now flip it over and use whatever you have handy to put some weight on it. I happen to have had a basket of pumpkins nearby, so that's what I used. Mod Podge your paper to both of your boards, and let them dry for a few minutes.

Now you're ready to glue your pockets on your boards. You will need some type of craft glue--I used a glue gun only because I was in a hurry and needed something that dried super fast. However, I would not recommend using a glue gun unless you have a super steady hand and plan on making zero mistakes. If you use a type of glue that is repositionable for at least a few seconds, there will be far fewer choice words muttered under your breath when you accidentally glue the number 15 pocket in the number 16 spot. Not that I did that (yes I did). A glue gun is not very forgivable. So, get some normal craft glue, a piece of paper, and some painters tape. Measure down from the top of your board 4 inches, like so:

Lightly tape your piece of paper at the 4 inch line--this will make sure you get all your pockets lined up straight. Now glue the three tabs on the back of your pocket, line it up on the piece of paper, and glue it about a half an inch from the edge. Make sure you've got the right pocket in the right place!

Glue the two pockets on the outer edges first:

Then you can just eyeball the two center pockets (about a half an inch apart).

Once you have your first four glued in place, stand back and admire your work. Now, carefully peel your piece of paper up, and tape it back down, this time 3.5 inches from the bottom of the first row of pockets.

Glue the next row on the same way as the first row. Half an inch from the edge, two outer pockets first.

Move your paper another 3.5 inches down from the bottom of the pockets, and glue the next row on. Be careful to glue your pockets on in numerical order! The tags can be random, the pockets cannot. Once you have the whole top board glued, you can do the same thing to the bottom board. Be sure to start at the top--the side with the holes in it.

Follow the same pattern as the top board, first row is 4 inches down, second and third are 3.5 inches down.

This is what they will look like when you're done gluing the pockets on. If any of your glue happened to escape the tabs, your pockets might be sort of glued shut. Just take a butter knife and slide it into each pocket and pop open anything you may have glued shut.

Now we get to decorate the tags! You'll need a bunch of different colors of small ribbon. I just grabbed whatever looked Christmassy from my stash.

You will only need about 2-2.5 inches of ribbon per tag. You don't want them too long or they will cover the picture on the pocket above them. Cut small sections of ribbon at an angle, slide them through the hole in each tag, use a small dot of glue and fold the ribbon in half at an angle:

I didn't take a picture of my next step, but I ran the ends of my ribbon across a candle flame to keep the ribbon from fraying. Try not to light your tags on fire, or better yet, run the ribbon over the flame BEFORE you put it through the tag. Now you just do this for all your tags:

Now you are just about done! Chose some ribbon to tie your boards together and to hang your calendar from. For the top of your calendar, string the ribbon from the back of both top holes:

Now just decide how far you want it to hang, tie a knot, and then a bow:

Now to connect your two boards, string the ribbon through the back of the bottom board, and then through the front of the top board:

Now flip both boards over, adjust the length to how far you want the bottom board to hang, and tie a knot.

Trim your ribbon so it doesn't show when hanging, and you are DONE!!!

Glass Thanksgiving Decor Tutorial

So I've been looking for some cheap and easy decor ideas, and I found one on Pinterest that looked super easy. This is the finished project:

Total cost--under $10.00
Total time--about and hour. Not too bad. So here's what I did:

I bought 6 of these glasses from the dollar store. They have many different shapes and sizes, these were just about what I was looking for.

Then, I used a black Sharpie to write "grazie" on them. Italian for Thank You. Don't ask me why, but I like to do things in different languages. It's just something a little different from the norm, and it makes me feel smart. :)

Next, I took a glue gun and traced the letters. Make sure you go slow and steady to try to get an even look. I wish I had a steadier hand, mine turned out a little more bumpy than I would have liked. The good thing about glue on glass, is that if you do mess up, it peels off really easily and you can try again! Also, try to get rid of all those glue strings when the glue has dried.

Then, I took them outside to get spray painted. I chose an almond color so it would stand out on my black shelf, but you can do whatever color you'd like!

Give them a light coat first, then give them a few minutes to dry. Don't spray too much at once or your paint will run! I did probably 5 or 6 coats before I felt like they were well covered. And yes, that's snow. Brrrr. Then I brought them inside to dry all the way.

When they were dry I just rounded up some fall picks and flowers that I already had laying around and arranged them all on my shelf. Like so:

It's nothing crazy amazing, but it was cheap and easy. And it filled the shelf. Have fun!

Free Thanksgiving Print

Wow. It's snowing here. Like, really snowing. Grrrr. I was not prepared for that this morning! I am happy that it's November though, and the start of all the fantastic Holiday celebrating! Woo-hoo!! I managed to get all my Halloween stuff put away, and busted out the Thanksgiving decor! I made you all a little printable too. It prints 8x10 so it'll look great in a frame. I would show you a picture of it in a frame, but I of course ran out of ink, so I'll have to work on that. Here ya go, just right click and save.

Halloween Punch Recipe

Quick post cause I want to share this yummy Halloween punch recipe. We love this stuff at our house, so hopefully you will too! It's orange so we let the kids draw pumpkin faces on the goblets with a black Sharpie--it comes off with a little glass cleaner--and then we have a festive little drink with our Halloween dinner:

Here's the recipe:

HALLOWEEN PUNCH

1/2 can frozen orange juice concentrate

1/2 can frozen lemonade concentrate

1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. almond extract

1 cup sugar
2 quarts water

That's it! --I always double it so I can just use the whole cans of concentrate. Enjoy and have a great Halloween!

Hey I finished my Halloween table runner! Just in time, I know, I'm so on the ball! Hey, I still had like 2 days. Nothing like a few last minute projects to fill your Friday night right?! Here's my runner:

And since I had so much leftover fabric, I was able to make a Halloween skirt for my daughter, and a Halloween apron for me. Cause you totally should have an apron for every occasion right? That's right.

The Big Red Barn

Oh how I love Fall...I wish it could be Fall all year. There are so many fun things to do, like a trip to the Big Red Barn! Love, Love, Love this tradition...here's some pics:

Now, when at the Big Red Barn, there are some things that you must do. First, you must take the Hayride out to the pumpkin patch.

You must ooh and ahh at all the yummy apple trees.

You must pose for pictures in front of the miniature Red Barn.

And also in front of the maze.

Now, dance on the Hay Pyramid. That's right, dance.

Now, Search for the PERFECT pumpkin!

The best part of the pumpkin? The stem of course! Love these!


Say "Hi" to the animals wandering near.


Gather your pumpkins and ride back to the barn. Take some pictures along the way.

Then you get some ice cream for the ride home. Such a perfect fall day.

Spider Scavenger Hunt

Ok, I have to show you this because it actually turned out to be HILARIOUS! Every year I take my kids on a Fall Scavenger Hunt up the canyon, but this year I wanted to try something different. So while my kids were at school, I went and bought a few packs of those cheap plastic spider rings. Then I went out in my backyard and scattered them EVERYWHERE. I put them in the bushes, on tree branches, in the garden, in the grass--all over the place. Then I waited for it to get REALLY dark. We don't have any city lights where we live, so when it gets dark, it gets really dark. Then I told my kids to go grab a jacket and a flashlight. I handed them each a ziplock bag and sent them outside. I told them to collect as many spiders as they could. They were like, "WHAT?!!" It turned out to be SO funny because they were suddenly terrified of the backyard! They held onto each other and just giggled. Once they figured out what they were looking for, they went nuts.

You would not believe how scary it is to see a big spider at night and not know if it was real or not! They kept kicking the spiders before they would pick them up, just in case they ran away!

It was SO creepy!
When they had gathered all they could find, we came inside and had brownies and chocolate pudding with white chocolate spider webs!

I think we will make scavenger hunts in the dark a new tradition at our house! Happy Hunting!

Withes Night Out!

My good friend Angela and I put together this super cute lunch for the Cheerleaders at Springville High today--Go Red Devils! I love doing sports themes, but it was really fun to play with the girly side of sports--CHEERLEADING! Take at look at what we've been up to!

Popsicle Stick Puzzles Tutorial

My friend pinned this on Pinterest the other day:

And I thought, hey that would make a super cute toddler activity! And, how fun would it be to make some seasonal themed puzzles! I decided to make a set to send to my little niece since my kids are a little too old for these. Although, my eight year old had a blast helping me with these today! Here's what we did:

First we printed off some cute Fall pictures--just regular 4x6 prints from Walmart. I like to put my pictures on photo paper whenever I am going to glue them to something. Photo paper won't wrinkle or tear when you're working with it, and the quality of the finished product is just better!

Then, we cut the pictures into sections just a tiny bit smaller than the width of a big craft popsicle stick.

Next, we Mod Podged the strips to the craft sticks.

And that's pretty much it! Here's a look at a few of the puzzles we made...

We just put each puzzle in it's own ziplock sandwich bag, and put them in a box. I think this weekend I will sew her a cute little Halloween purse to carry these around in. Such a cute and easy little project!

Gumball Necklace Tutorial

I am loving all these gumball necklaces I keep seeing all over the place! I made one a few weeks ago for a friend's little girl, and now I've gotten a little obsessed with them! My dear friend Melissa has a birthday party this week, so we spent today making 18 gumball necklaces for party favors! Oh so cute! I can't wait to show you the rest of the party, but for now, here's a sneak peak at the fun colors and a little gumball necklace how-to!

First, you'll need a bunch of big gumballs--in this case we needed pink, green, yellow and orange, to match the party of course! Also, because we had so many to do, we went with the faster route--the drill. You can poke these by hand using a big needle, but a drill is much cleaner and faster.

I don't know the exact size of the bit we used, but just make sure it's big enough for a big yarn needle to get through. Drill holes through one side and out the other...

We used a scrap of wood to drill on so we could just do it in the kitchen. Please don't drill through your counter top.

Then we lined them up in patterns on a towel so they wouldn't run away.

Next you'll need some ribbon. Thread the ribbon through a big yarn needle. We cut the ribbon about a yard and a half and that seemed to work perfectly for 7 gumballs on each necklace.

Then start threading your gumballs, tying a knot on the side and between each gumball.

Keep going until your pattern is complete and finish it off with a bow. Make sure it's big enough to go over a little one's head.

What a fun and inexpensive party favor! These turned out so cute. Those little girls are going to love them I'm sure! I'll be back later with more party pics!

My Garden

My garden has gone a bit crazy lately. Maybe it's because it's getting cooler and all my plants are so much happier, but whatever it is, I can barely keep up! Some of it has been so fun--like the strawberries!

I thought I was going to get them all in June, but seriously, they are on round 2 and I'm getting TONS!

My tomatoes came on with a fury too, anybody want some tomatoes?!! Please?

And yes, I am that nerd that has to label all my jars with cute little labels. It's a sickness, I know.

And beans. Really beans? You have got to stop the madness. Do you think that maybe I have nothing better to do than can and blog? I can't tell you how many beans I've canned this year, wait, yes I can, after today I will have 65 jars I believe. I have been canning beans every 3 or 4 days and I still have more out there.

I think that by the time the season is over, I will have canned the equivalent of about 4 cases of beans, for the price of the seeds, which was about $4.00. That's pretty awesome. I have added so much to my food storage this year thanks to my out of control garden! Can't wait to see what I can grow next year! Oh, also when I went out this morning, my hibiscus had just bloomed...so pretty!

Autumn Splendor- FALL Blocks

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Name Blocks

So what's a cute birthday gift for an adorable little girl? Adorable name blocks that match her room, that's what. How fun are these?! My little girl had a birthday party this afternoon, and since I waited til the last minute to get a gift, I had no idea what to get her! So I thought I'd make something for her using stuff I already had laying around. Some wood scraps from the garage, some paint, ribbon, and a quick printout of her name using Misty's super cute kit--Girl's Just Wanna Have Fun! This is what I ended up with...

I wish the pictures did them justice, but they don't quite capture how bright and fun the colors are. So fun for a little girl's room! Here's the kit that I used...
